NHS Spends £700m

Dec 22, 2009

The NHS spends £700million on compensation claims

According to latest statistics over £700million is paid out by the NHS to lawyers in compensation claims throughout the UK.

No win,no fee claims have rapidly increased since 2004 with the average successful payout being £57.000.

The £700m paid to solicitors and barristers could build several new hospitals.

What can be done ? The answer is that the NHS should give patient safety the priority it deserved. This would result in fewer patients and staff being injured and therefore less compensation claims.

All organisations should make safety a priority to reduce their exposure to litigation.
